       In NightJohn we came to find that the characters are negros and are slaves to a brutal farm owner. When a new clave cames in we find that he had been free then came back for only one purpose. To teach others how to read and write, because there story would one day need to be told. So that people would know the truth.
       In Mascot Malcom had to defy a lot of odds and had no support what so ever. He wanted to be a lawyer but nobody thought a negro boy would make it that far. Even when he moves in with a white family he isnt supported fully in what he wants to do. When he moves in with his Aunt in Boston, he sees that maybe he really could be someone.
       In the Great Debaters a similiarty between it and Mascot was that Samnath wanted to be a lawyer just like Malcom but unlike Malcom she had the support of her teachers and her peers. And there is a similarity between John from Nightjohn and Henry from Great debaters. John was freed and went North but came back south because he could read and write. Now its not exactly the same but Henry was gone for awhile, but came back because he said, "its the only place you can read all you want...besides jail". He came back because he wanted to read.
